James Bailes

— 17E Coach

A West Virginia native, James left the mountain state shortly after high school to pursue a career in the US Air Force. Accompanied by his high school sweetheart Tiffney, they traveled and made lifelong friends along the way. It was while he was in the Air Force that he discovered the importance of teamwork and building relationships.
After retirement, James returned to West Virginia and attended WVSU to finish his bachelor’s degree in education. After 5 years with a local school system, he retired from there to support his children Makala, Jarod, and Faith in their pursuits.
James has been involved with youth sports for the last 20 years in one capacity or another. From coaching to boosters, he has made a commitment to assist in building opportunities for youth sports.
In 2018, James took over as Head Coach of George Washington Middle School Volleyball. With a very young program, he was able to compete and have a very successful 1st season. He has had continued success with a current record of 42-13 with 3 conference titles across 2 separate conferences. James is a strong believer in teaching fundamentals and team building. He believes in training up players that have confidence and respect not only on but off the court. His vision is to see his players be successful in life and in all things they do.
